Late Updates...Pt. II

(A continuation of 'Late Updates...pt. 1:')

On the 11th, We went to Astoria. A cute little town on the coast.
While we were there, we went to the Astoria Column. A huge column with dates and drawings/paintings (?) of important moments in Oregon history. It also has 164 steps inside. You go up a spiral stairway to the top, and you can see the town, mountains and water (not the ocean). It was fun!
We also went to see an old jail and a house that were in a movie years ago. That was fun, too. The house is privately owned, so we couldn't go inside. Oh well. :)
Then, we took a tour of the Flavel House Museum. It was so beautiful inside! It was the home of a sea captain, his wife, and two daughters. It is a Queen Anne Style house that was built in 1886. it is 11,600 square feet, and is two and a half stories high. Inside it is furnished with furniture, clothes, and other things that are from that time period.
Twice, there was talk of tearing it down. The first time, they wanted to build a community park. The second time, they wanted to make it into a parking lot for the county Courthouse. Fortunately, the house was saved, and is now a museum. The house has a very interesting history. I will post a link about it below.
I'm glad we got to go there. We had a good time. :)
After that, we went to Fort Clatsop. It was one of the forts built by Lewis and Clark. That was fun to see! Sometime they have people dressed up in traditional costumes, but we didn't see that this time.

(About the Flavel House)

On the 12th, we went to a town called Cannon Beach.
We spent a lot of time at the ocean. We also went to the beach to see Haystack Rock. It's a very large rock that was in a couple of scenes in the same movie the house and jail were in.
Later, we went to a place called "The Salt Works." It was a reconstruction of the place where Lewis and Clark and their men boiled sea water to make salt. I liked seeing that a lot!
We then drove to Lincoln City, where we spent the night.

Well, that's what we did those two days.
I love Oregon! :)
