I would like to go to Japan or Scotland someday,
but there is nowhere I'd rather live right now than in my own hometown. :)

A '#20 Things You may Not Know about Me' Blog Tag...Part 1

I just got "tagged" by a friend who wanted me to do this, so here goes:

1: "How tall are you?"

I am 5' 3"

2: "Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?"

If I do, I don't think I've found it, yet. :)

3: "What's your biggest art-related pet peeve?"

I'm not an artist, so I don't have one.

4: "What's your biggest non art-related pet peeve?"

I think grammatical mistakes are some of the things that bug me the most.
Especially when I make them! XD

5: "What's your favorite song?"

I have so many, it's impossible to choose only one!
One of my favorite Christian songs is 'I Wish We'd All Been Ready' by Larry Norman,
and one of my favorite secular songs is
'The Leader of the Band' by Dan Fogelberg.

6: "What's your favorite Etsy shop that isn't yours?"

I don't do Etsy, so I don't have one.

7: "What's your favorite way to spend your free time when you're alone?"

I like to make paper bead bracelets, do origami, knit, crochet,
and listen to music to name a few.

8: "What's your favorite junk food?"

It's hard to choose just one, but I really like Cheetos.

9: "Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?"

We have three cats: a medium haired tabby named Webster, and Calico named Ginger, and a Russian Blue named Edgar. We also have a black and white rabbit named Buttons.

10: "What are your number one favorite nonfiction and fiction books?"

Like I've said before, I have more than one favorite, but I think I'll say 'Gone-Away Lake' by Elizabeth Enright was one of my favorite fiction books (the sequel was good, too),
and 'Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie' The Oregon Trail Diary of Hattie Campbell was one of my favorite nonfiction books. It had some pretty sad parts, but it was very interesting.

Phew! I think that will be all for now.
I'll do the other ten questions later. :)

Bye for now!

Last Late Trip Update...

Sorry I haven't written for a while.
We have been busy, but I'll get to that later. Hee hee! :)

On Sept. 15th, we headed home from Oregon.
We weren't able to make it home in one day, so we spent the night in Eureka, Ca. The next morning, we continued our trip home.
We drove through a some of "the Avenue of the Giants," but not a lot this time (we have been there before).
We got home late in the afternoon. We were glad to be out of the truck! It had been a long day.
I'm so glad we got to go to Oregon! We had a wonderful time!
I hope we can go back there someday. :)

Late Updates Pt. IV...

On the 14th, we drove to a small town called Bandon.
They are well known for their cranberry growing. Every year they have a cranberry festival. We were hoping to get there in time, but we got there just as it ended. :(
Oh well. We still enjoyed looking around town, and I liked watching the crabbers/crab fishers.
I don't like crabs because they are creepy, but I had fun watching people catching them. Maybe it's because I like fishing. :)
It was late in the day, so we couldn't go into many stores.
We did more of that the next day.
Bandon was one of my favorite towns! :)

Late Updates...Pt. III

On the 13th, We left Lincoln City and headed to Newport. While there, we went to the Newport Aquarium.
Some of my favorite creatures were Sea Pens, Jellyfish, Starfish, Harbor Seals, Sea Horses, and Sea Otters.
We really enjoyed it!
From there, we went to the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
We weren't there long because we wanted to get to our next destination before it got too late.
I enjoyed the little bit I saw, though. They had microscopes that showed different creatures ( I don't remember what they were), phones in which you could hear different whale sounds, a skull of a walrus, a pool where you could touch sea plants etc., and many other things. It was fun!
Next, we stopped on the way to the next town at the oldest gift shop on the Oregon coast. It's at a place called Cape Foulweather. It was cute. :)
While we were there, we got to see 4 or 5 Gray whales swimming back and forth for a while. They were pretty close to the shore. It was so exciting to see them swim by and spout water! :)
We then drove to our motel in a town called Florence.
It was a cute little town. We spent the rest of the day at the beach finding shells. We found quite a few Sand Dollars. Some were even smaller than a pea! Those were really fun to find!

We also drove through a town called Depoe Bay (in Lincoln City). It's called the smallest harbor in the world. That's funny! :)

Later at our motel, we watched a movie called "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events." We didn't finish it until the next night because it was late when we started. It was pretty sad, but at least it ended pretty happily.
It was a good way to end the day. :)

Well, that's all for now.

Late Updates...Pt. II

(The Flavel House Museum
(image is not mine))

(A continuation of 'Late Updates...pt. 1:')

On the 11th, We went to Astoria. A cute little town on the coast.
While we were there, we went to the Astoria Column. A huge column with dates and drawings/paintings (?) of important moments in Oregon history. It also has 164 steps inside. You go up a spiral stairway to the top, and you can see the town, mountains and water (not the ocean). It was fun!
We also went to see an old jail and a house that were in a movie years ago. That was fun, too. The house is privately owned, so we couldn't go inside. Oh well. :)
Then, we took a tour of the Flavel House Museum. It was so beautiful inside! It was the home of a sea captain, his wife, and two daughters. It is a Queen Anne Style house that was built in 1886. it is 11,600 square feet, and is two and a half stories high. Inside it is furnished with furniture, clothes, and other things that are from that time period.
Twice, there was talk of tearing it down. The first time, they wanted to build a community park. The second time, they wanted to make it into a parking lot for the county Courthouse. Fortunately, the house was saved, and is now a museum. The house has a very interesting history. I will post a link about it below.
I'm glad we got to go there. We had a good time. :)
After that, we went to Fort Clatsop. It was one of the forts built by Lewis and Clark. That was fun to see! Sometime they have people dressed up in traditional costumes, but we didn't see that this time.

(About the Flavel House)

On the 12th, we went to a town called Cannon Beach.
We spent a lot of time at the ocean. We also went to the beach to see Haystack Rock. It's a very large rock that was in a couple of scenes in the same movie the house and jail were in.
Later, we went to a place called "The Salt Works." It was a reconstruction of the place where Lewis and Clark and their men boiled sea water to make salt. I liked seeing that a lot!
We then drove to Lincoln City, where we spent the night.

Well, that's what we did those two days.
I love Oregon! :)

Late Updates...Pt. 1

I haven't written for a few days because one of our hotels didn't have internet connection until we left, and I forgot to bring my Chromebook in last night.

On the 10th, we went to the International Rose Test Garden in Portland. It's where they develop new varieties of roses and test them out. Founded in 1917, it is the oldest public test garden in America that's still in use.
It was so beautiful! They have 600 different varieties of rose there.
Many I had never seen before. Some were purple and white striped roses, and one had solid pink and solid white roses on the same bush. I loved being there. :)
Then we went next door to the Portland Japanese Gardens. They say it is the most authentic Japanese Garden outside of Japan.
It was beautiful there, too. There were waterfalls, pretty fish (Koi) filled pools of water, a bridge with a creek underneath it, lovely green trees, and many other things.
I didn't want to leave! :)

I have to get ready to go now.
We are heading to our next location soon.

To be continued... :)

Quote of the Day

More Updates

We drove to Eugene Oregon today, and eventually ended up in Salem. The state Capital. We are spending the night in Salem tonight.
Today we went to a drive though wild life safari in Winston.
It was a lot of fun! We saw bears, giraffes, buffalo, lions, tigers, wildebeests, beautiful spotted deer, llamas, emus, cheetahs, and many other things. There was even a walk through area like a zoo. We saw monkeys, snakes, a legless lizard, a maned wolf (so beautiful!), flamingos, geese, Koi fish, cougars (also beautiful creatures), etc. I really enjoyed being able to go there. It was a surprise our Mom planned for us. :)
We also went to the Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene ( one lady we asked for directions from thought it had to do with rap music. Ha ha!) It a place where they rehabilitate birds of prey, then later release them back into the wild. Sometimes though, there are birds who can't ever be  released back into the wild, because they had injuries that didn't heal right, or they went blind in one eye, etc.
They had all kinds of hawks, falcons, kites, a marlin, owls, eagles, and many other kinds of birds. They were so cute and pretty! I wanted to stay all day! I loved it there. I took quite a few photos, too. :)
We then drove here to Salem. For a lot of the way, it was solid green trees as far as you could see. Some of the trees are already turning red and yellow. It was beautiful!
We are staying at the Howard Johnson Motel.
It has an outdoor pool that I swam in for a little while. It was a bit cold, but I enjoyed it.
I guess that's it for now.

To be continued... :)

Another Trip Update...

We went to Burney Falls today.
I think I went there when I was very young, but I can't remember it.
When I saw it, my first reaction was "Wow!"
It was probably the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen!
We were able to get very close to the water. The mist felt very cool and refreshing. It looked liked billions of super tiny snowflakes flying around. I didn't want to leave! It was so gorgeous.
I hope we can go back someday soon!
From there, we drove on for a few hours till we got to Oregon.
We are staying in a town called Grants pass.
It's a nice little town.
Our motel has a heated indoor pool and small spa.
We went swimming a while ago, and we had a lot of fun. I love the spa!
Well, that's all for now.

To be continued! :D

Fast Update...

We checked into the Pine Hill Motel a little while ago.
It took about 4 hours to get here.
We will be heading over to Cromberg pretty soon.pine
Our room is very cute and very cabinish. The walls are covered with shiny, knotty pine boards, and it has a cute kitchen with a one person bed in it. That's pretty funny!
At least you'll be closer to the fridge if you need a midnight snack.
Well, I need to go get ready for the wedding.
Bye for now!

Just one more day until the wedding, and only two more until our trip. I'm very excited! We are all packed and ready to go.
I will try to keep posting updates about our trip as we travel.
I can hardly wait! :D

Another 'Today's Quote'

“Free will I have often heard of, but I have never seen it. I have always met with will, and plenty of it, but it has either been led captive by sin or held in the blessed bonds of grace.”

Drawing

I said a while back in my 'About Me' post that I like to draw once in a while.
Usually, I just look at something on the Internet or in books (rarely) and copy it as best I can. Here is one I did not too long ago. It was hard to do, but I had fun.
It's not too good, but it was one of my favorites to draw. :)

'A Robot' By me. :)

Upcoming Wedding

My Cousin's wedding is in 5 days.
It going to be in a town called Cromberg . I've never been there before.
I hadn't even heard of it until about a month ago.
All I really know is that it's located in Plumas County (I don't think I have ever been there, either). I wonder what it will be like.
The day after the wedding, we are planning to go to from Quincy (I've never been there, either :) ) to Oregon for a vacation. We plan to be gone 7 or 8 days. I'm not really sure how far into Oregon we will be going, but we are hoping to drive back along the coast.
I can hardly wait! :D

Today's Music Video

Do I need to say how much I love this song? :)

(For those who may not know, it's "Til my raptured soul shall find"
not "ruptured." :) )

Another quote of the Day

Image result for amy carmichael

“But God is the God of the waves and the billows, and they are still His when they come over us; and again and again we have proved that the overwhelming thing does not overwhelm. Once more by His interposition deliverance came. We were cast down, but not destroyed.”
